Linda Stout fronts a band and appears in solo and duo configurations to showcase original, catchy songs with pop, Appalachian and jazz influences.
Linda Stout's second release, "Extended Play," with wildly, creative production by David Sale drawing out the character in Linda's lower range, is now available by writing to mgt@LindaStout.com and at CDBaby and at shows. This new CD, still in pre-release, while essentially a pop record, is already winning attention for its wide-ranging influences including two settings of Robert Frost poems -- it's electronic-acoustic, uptown-downhome (with urban and roots sounds), and uptempo-downtempo.
Linda Stout's debut CD "Good Luck Child" (2004) includes an acoustic jazz setting of an Emily Dickinson poem ("If you were coming in the fall/I'd brush the summer by...") and acoustic pop. The CD, which Linda produced, includes contributions by bassist and drummer Charlie Shew (Robbie Dupree, Samite, Hank Roberts, Mick Ronson) and pianist Matt Robbins, who play live with her. Other musicians on the CD include Koch Recording artist Johnny Dowd on an electric guitar solo, pianist Jan Nigro, standup bassist Dana Paul, drummer Greg Emerson and Doug Robinson (Martin Simpson) on a harmony vocal. The CD was recorded on state-of–the-art and vintage equipment by Al Grunwell of Finger Lakes Recording who started Calf Audio in Ithaca more than 30 years ago. Linda's cousin, Ward Stout (Aaron Tippin, Dierks Bentley, Tracy Lawrence) co-produced "Blue Blue Water," playing mandolin and fiddle on a song about Linda's other relatives' four-year tour on a handmade cement sailboat.
The CD is getting airplay on Whole Wheat Radio, Ithaca stations, RadioioAcoustic.com, other internet stations and terrestrial radio in the US and overseas.
